Apple Sauce
This easy apple sauce recipe is for one portion, but feel free to increase quantities as necessary to keep plenty to hand in your fridge.
You can also freeze it in ice cube trays for future use to save time and effort later.
Feel free to use frozen veg/fruit/herbs etc in any of my recipes if you don’t have fresh options.
Ingredients
1 Large Cooking Apple (use any other apple if you don’t have cooking apples)
20ml Water
1/4 tsp Cinnamon (optional)
Recipe
1) Chop the apple into chunks (skin on) and place in a pan on the hob with the water.
2) Place the lid on the pan and cook on a low/medium heat, allowing the apple to be steamed and softened.
3) Stir occasionally to check apple does not stick to the bottom of the pan. Continue to cook until the apple is fully broken down.
4) Use a hand blender to blend apple mixture until smooth or to desired consistency. Add cinnamon if you would like.
Enjoy your apple sauce with any healthy meals or to add to baking recipes in place of sugar or other highly processed sweeteners.
Top Tips
If there are any ingredients that you do not like in any of the recipes, then feel free to swap them out for another food choice within the same food category (grains, beans & other legumes, fruit, veg, nuts & seeds).
You can also use frozen fruit or veg when you don’t have the fresh option.
Don’t forget to keep the skins on your veg where possible for essential added fibre and nutrition.
